Renewable Energy and Energy Transformation
Solar, Wind, energy storage and Hydro Power Generations
What We Do
We facilitate the development of utility-scale renewable energy (Solar, Wind or Hydro) power plants. This involves several stages, from feasibility studies and permitting to design, financing, construction, and ongoing operations.
Each step is essential to ensure that the project is viable, cost-effective, and compliant with regulations while contributing to sustainable energy goals.
Eamecs focus in renewable energy is to provide owners with engineering support as well as specialized studies and analysis to the clients and developers providing expertise and guidance across the entire project lifecycle from feasibility studies and design review to construction oversight and operations management.
How We Do It
Project Inception & Feasibility
Feasibility Studies:
Conduct a comprehensive feasibility study, including renewable resource assessments (solar irradiance, wind speeds, etc.), environmental impact studies, and technical/economic analyses to determine project viability.
Technology Selection:
Advise on the most suitable renewable energy technology (e.g., solar PV, wind turbines) and configurations based on site conditions, capacity goals, and cost considerations.
Site Selection:
Evaluate and recommend optimal site locations based on land availability, proximity to grid infrastructure, environmental considerations, and regulatory requirements.
Risk Assessment:
Identify and assess potential project risks (technical, financial, environmental) and develop mitigation strategies.
Initial Cost Estimation:
Prepare initial cost estimates for development, construction, and operation to help the owner make informed investment decisions.
Permitting & Regulatory Approvals
Zoning & Land Use Permits:
Obtain zoning approvals and land-use permits from local authorities, ensuring the project complies with land use regulations.
Environmental Approvals:
Secure environmental permits, ensuring the project meets regulatory requirements related to biodiversity, water usage, and emissions.
Grid Connection Permits:
Work with the local utility to get interconnection agreements and grid connection permits for power transmission.
Government Incentives & Support:
Apply for any available tax incentives, subsidies, or grants that support renewable energy projects.
Design & Engineering Oversight
Conceptual Design Review:
Develop or review the initial conceptual designs, ensuring they meet project goals, site-specific requirements, and industry best practices.
Technical Specifications:
Draft detailed technical specifications for equipment (e.g., solar modules, wind turbines, inverters), power systems, and grid interconnections, ensuring compatibility with local grid codes and performance standards.
Engineering Design Review:
Oversee the detailed engineering design prepared by the EPC contractor, verifying that it aligns with the owner’s objectives, technical specifications, and regulatory standards.
Electrical System Design Review:
Review designs for electrical infrastructure, including grid connections, transformers, switchgear, and protection systems, to ensure reliability and compliance with grid requirements.
Energy Storage Integration (if applicable):
Assess and recommend energy storage options, such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), for managing intermittency and improving grid reliability.
Procurement Assistance
Tendering & Bid Evaluation:
Prepare and issue RFPs (Requests for Proposals) for EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, and other service providers. Evaluate bids based on technical and financial criteria.
Vendor Selection:
Support the owner in selecting reputable and qualified vendors for major components like wind turbines, solar panels, inverters, transformers, and construction services.
Contract Negotiation:
Assist in negotiating contracts, including EPC agreements, supply contracts, and service contracts, ensuring favorable terms for the project owner.
Construction Oversight
EPC Contractor Supervision:
Act as the owner’s representative on-site, overseeing the EPC contractor’s work to ensure construction is completed on time, within budget, and to the specified quality standards.
Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC):
Conduct regular inspections and quality checks during construction to ensure that the installation of equipment, electrical systems, and infrastructure meets industry standards and project specifications.
Health, Safety, & Environment (HSE):
Ensure that construction activities comply with health, safety, and environmental standards, protecting workers and minimizing the project’s environmental footprint.
Progress Monitoring:
Track and report construction progress, ensuring adherence to the project schedule and identifying potential delays or issues early.
Commissioning & Testing
System Testing & Commissioning:
Oversee the commissioning process, including testing individual components (solar panels, wind turbines, inverters) and the entire system’s performance.
Performance Validation:
Ensure that the plant operates as designed by verifying energy output, system efficiency, and grid compliance during the commissioning phase.
Interconnection & Grid Synchronization:
Coordinate with utilities for grid synchronization and ensure the plant is safely and successfully connected to the grid.
Deficiency Reporting:
Identify and report any deficiencies or issues during commissioning, ensuring the EPC contractor resolves them before final acceptance.
Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Planning
O&M Contract Support:
Help the owner establish long-term O&M contracts, outlining roles and responsibilities for system upkeep, preventive maintenance, and repairs.
O&M Plan Development:
Develop a comprehensive operations and maintenance plan, including schedules for preventive maintenance, system monitoring, and performance optimization.
Performance Monitoring Systems:
Recommend and implement remote monitoring systems to track the plant’s real-time performance, energy output, and fault detection.
Warranty Management:
Ensure that all equipment warranties are properly documented, and assist with warranty claims if issues arise during operation.
Project Handover & Close-Out
Final Project Review:
Conduct a final review of the entire project, ensuring all systems are fully operational and that all contractual obligations have been met.
As-Built Documentation:
Ensure the delivery of all as-built drawings, technical documentation, and operational manuals to the project owner.
Final Acceptance:
Facilitate the final acceptance of the project from the EPC contractor, confirming that all punch-list items are resolved.
Project Close-Out Report:
Prepare a close-out report summarizing the project’s performance, lessons learned, and recommendations for future operations.
Long-Term Asset Management Support
Performance Audits:
Periodically assess the plant’s operational performance and recommend improvements to maintain optimal efficiency.
Optimization of Energy Output:
Analyze energy production data and suggest upgrades or modifications to improve the plant’s output or integrate new technologies.
Site Selection:
Evaluate and recommend optimal site locations based on land availability, proximity to grid infrastructure, environmental considerations, and regulatory requirements.
Lifetime Asset Management:
Assist in long-term asset management strategies, including repowering, equipment replacement, or decommissioning planning at the end of the plant’s life cycle.
