Online Partial Discharge, and Temperature Monitoring and Analytics for MV Power Cables and Switchgear
Online Partial Discharge and Temperature Monitoring for T&D assets
Alberta, Canada
Problem definition: The client owns and operates numerous critical HV and MV equipment such as switchgear, power transformers and power cables, which need to be very reliable to reduce production losses.
Assets are aging and require extra monitoring to predict any failure well ahead of time to plan properly for the repair /replacement.
EAMEC scope: Owner’s engineering, project management and technical review, including project scope and execution strategy development, bid document preparation, technical and commercial bid evaluation, construction support and sustainment planning.
Proposed solution: To implement Online monitoring of transformers’ dissolved gas analyzers, temperatures, and Partial discharge activities in the switchgear and MV&HV cables. Develop Asset health indices and dashboards for transformers test results.
Steps taken from the beginning till the end:
- Scope development
- Document collection
- Site survey
- Detailed engineering including sensor selection
- Procurement
- Construction
- Commissioning and start up
- Communication and OT data enablement
- Model development
- Sustainment
- Deliverables: Pi Vision models and dashboard for online monitoring of 19 power transformers and 111 MV cables and switchgears
- Outcomes and benefits for the client: Increased reliability, benefit of $740K per year, Adding more accurate long term planning capability for the equipment in the scope
